Write Deeper Characters: Creating Internal Conflict
Each individual is driven by a profound inner yearning that defines their dream of life. What holds them back from fulfilling that dream? Forces of Resistance: weaknesses, wounds, limitations, and flaws, and external opposition and obligations. This core inner conflict, the drive to pursue the promise of life and an equal and opposite drive to minimize the pain of life, informs the character’s sense of lack at the outset of your story, which informs their need to act. In this OnDemand webinar, author David Corbett discusses how to conceive, create, and develop these counteracting forces.
David Corbett is the author of six novels, which have been nominated for numerous awards, including the Edgar. His non-fiction has appeared in the New York Times, Narrative, Writer’s Digest and other outlets.
