Description
For many writers, getting an editor or agent interested in their work feels like a major victory. It certainly can be – but it doesn't mean you've won the war. There are several specific hurdles yet to overcome. If you fail to do so, it could mean a quick death for your book. These issues aren't typically shared with writers because most industry professionals don't think you can do anything about them. But they're wrong! In this webinar, WD publisher and book industry vet Phil Sexton will reveal how publishing decisions are made and books are sold. You'll learn how to:
  • Influence what the decision makers at a publishing house think about your book and what they do with it
  • Give your book the best opportunity to succeed when it's sold to book buyers at places like Barnes & Noble and Amazon
  • Give your book the best chance of finding its audience
Understanding how the business works, how publishers think, what motivates buyers, and how the public discovers your work can make all the difference between publishing success and not publishing at all. Instructor Phil Sexton has sold, marketed, published or promoted thousands of books over twenty years in the business and will show you how an insider's understanding of the industry can make your book a winner..
What you'll learn:
  • What your book faces when it's taken to "pub board"
  • How to influence the pub board decision
  • How to ensure that your book gets the best treatment from a publisher
  • How to give your book the best chance at getting on display and finding an audience
