From Good to Great: How to Apply the Principles of Story Physics to Craft the Best Fiction of Your Life
YOU'LL LOVE THIS ONDEMAND WEBINAR IF:
- You are experiencing story problems or narrative challenges
- You aren't getting what you need from traditional workshops and articles
- You have received a rejection from an agent and/or editor and seek to understand why
- You want to improve your craft!
ABOUT THIS ONDEMAND WEBINAR:
Some say there are only seven basic stories out there. And they may be right.
Some agents claim they are looking for either “the next great voice," or simply “a great story, well told."
And yet, a depressingly large percentage of rejected books (and screenplays) meet those very criteria. The competition is stiff, the criteria somewhat fluid, and the market always in flux.
A great story, well told, is always the goal, and always the minimum threshold to break in. Breaking in is rarely an accident; and even more rarely, a product of luck.
Authors can benefit from understanding what makes a great story great, and what differentiates one from another. We can never totally know what makes one story break out as a bestseller (other than an A-list author name, which really helps). However, we absolutely can break down, examine, and understand the essence of powerful storytelling on a commercial level -- and apply that understanding to our work.
This presentation targets all skill levels, from beginner to published author. It will break storytelling – both process and end-product – into component elements through mission-driven criteria. It will separate storytelling into three realms: the search for a GREAT story, the execution of a GREAT story, and the final polishing and packaging of that story to fit within the widest array of opportunities available.
Take your novel (or screenplay) to the next level!
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
- The difference between story structure and story physics
- How and why the “search for story" and the “execution of story" are different aspects of the overall process, and why shortcutting or blindly blending them makes the goal more difficult to reach
- How to use a “mission-driven" developmental approach to cut months (and even years!) off the process
- The need for a “secret sauce" in your story, and how to cook one up
- Put your pitch on steroids and make agents and editors say yes, or no, for the right reasons, by speaking THEIR language
- How to recognize the attributes in a great story -- turning each book you read and film you see into a clinic that will take your career higher, faster
